Trim Levels Exterior
With three different trim level options, it is easy to find the car that fits your needs. The base model, XLE Plus, features a newer, European-inspired body style that looks sleek, along with heated side mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels. The major difference in the exterior between the XLE Plus and the middle trim level, the XLE Premium, is fog lights. On the top-of-the-line Limited edition, xenon headlights, automatic wipers, and auto-dimming side mirrors come as standard features.
Engine Power
The engine within all three trim levels is a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter option that complements the additional electric motor. A trunk-mounted battery pack provides power to the electric motor, and when the two work together, the combined horsepower comes in at an impressive 200. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual, which powers the wheels. All three models also come standard with front-wheel drive.
Performance
When shopping for a full-size sedan, you might think that you have to give up good fuel economy to get a larger vehicle. But with the 2016 Avalon Hybrid, you can have the best of both worlds. The estimated fuel economy is combined 40 miles per gallon. In acceleration testing, it went from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just under eight seconds, but this isn't usually a big problem for drivers looking in the full-size sedan class, since acceleration isn't the key selling point.
Interior
Some of the key differences between the base, middle, and top trim level are within the vehicle. The XLE Plus and Premium come standard with leather upholstery and complementary wrapped steering wheel, while the Limited model has upgraded leather. Each trim level also has a seven-inch touchscreen with included Entune infotainment system. The screen is customizable, and you can utilize the swipe function to move between screens. Within the trunk, you will have 14 cubic feet of cargo space, which is plenty to accommodate a large stroller, suitcases, and other items that you might need to transport when traveling with a family. Each model has both USB and auxiliary connectivity, along with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone usage and audio connection.
Safety Features
All three models of the 2016 Toyota Avalon Hybrid include standard safety features such as stability and traction control, airbags, and antilock disc brakes. If you are shopping for the XLE Premium or Limited model, additional safety features include blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. On the Limited Avalon Hybrid, you can upgrade to the Toyota Safety Sense package, which includes pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and collision mitigation. One standard feature on the Limited model is the Toyota Safety Connect service, which provides collision notifications, roadside assistance, and a stolen vehicle locater. Another optional upgrade is adaptive cruise control.
