Trim Levels Exterior
While the Prius was originally a compact sedan, Toyota designers have modified it to its current class, a mid-size hatchback sedan. The 2016 model also features a fully redesigned body style, and it is available in six different trim levels. These options are the Two, Two Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four, and Four Touring. On the base model, exterior features include 15-inch alloy wheels and LED automatic headlights, taillights and running lights. The Two Eco has modifications that make it more efficient, such as ultra-low rolling resistance tires, lightweight lithium-ion battery, inflation kit that replaces the spare tire to decrease extra weight, and two-tone wheel covers. On the Three and Four trim options, the exterior is the same, but the Three and Four Touring models include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED clearance lights, fog lights, and modified rear bumper style.
Engine Power
The engine on all models of the 2016 Prius is the same as previous model years. It features a four-cylinder, 1.8-liter engine that complements two electric motors. When they are operating in sync with each other, along with the continuously variable transmission, the output is up to 121 horsepower. When you apply the brakes up to a moderate level, one of the electric motors transforms into a generator to keep the battery charged.
Performance
When buyers are looking at hybrid vehicles, one of the top priorities is typically fuel economy. The 2016 Toyota Prius, trim levels Two, Three, Four, Three Touring, and Four Touring, rank highly in this department, with an estimated economy of 52 MPG combined (50 MPG on the highway and 54 MPG in the city). If you are looking for even better efficiency, consider the Two Eco model, which gets 56 MPG combined (58 MPG in the city and 53 MPG on the highway). It also goes from 0 to 60 in just under 10 seconds, which comes in slightly faster than the previous model.
Interior
Standard interior features on the base model and Two Eco include heated mirrors, keyless ignition and entry through the driver's door, automatic climate control, cruise control, folding rear seat, two 4.2-inch information screens, 6.1-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, six-speaker audio system, and a rearview camera. In the Three, interior trim is upgraded to leatherette, along with white interior accents, real-time data, seven-inch touchscreen, a charging pad, and access to apps. Inside the Four, the front seats are heated, and it has seatback storage pockets and a power driver's seat. The Three and Four Touring have the same features as the Three and Four, respectively, along with updated interior contrast stitching.
Safety Features
Each model includes antilock disc brakes, extensive airbags, a rearview camera, and traction and stability control. The Four and Four Touring include cross-traffic alert with blind spot monitoring, and the Toyota Sense package, which offers forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning and intervention.
