Trim Levels Exterior
Available as either a two- or four-door model, the 2016 Toyota Yaris is available in three trims: L, LE, and SE. The SE trim is only available as a four-door option.

The L comes standard with 15-inch wheels, power windows and door locks, halogen headlights, a height-adjustable driver seat, air-conditioning, a tilt-only steering wheel, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, trip computer, Bluetooth connectivity, and six-speaker Entune Audio system with CD player, USB/iPod interface, HD radio, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen.

The LE adds alloy wheels, keyless entry, power side mirrors, metallic interior accents, cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and chrome interior door handles.

Opting for the SE trim gets you 16-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, projector-beam headlights, foglamps, a rear spoiler, special exterior styling elements, bigger tires, upgraded cloth upholstery, a leather-trimmed shifter and steering wheel, and four-wheel disc brakes.
Engine Power
The 2016 Yaris features a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. A manual transmission is standard on the two-door L and four-door SE models, although a four-speed automatic transmission is optional. The four-door L and LE models are only available with the automatic.
Performance
In performance tests, the manual four-door Yaris went from zero to 60 in 9.5 seconds, which is average for its class. The Yaris's acceleration may not be as quick as some of its competitors, but what it lacks in pep it makes up for in fuel economy. EPA estimates for the manual Yaris place it as 33 mpg combined, which breaks down to 30 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway. With the automatic, you'll enjoy 32 mpg combined, or 30 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway.
Interior
The Yaris features a straightforward interior that simplifies driving. The large speedometer is prominent, and there are only a couple of other gauges to read, making it a great car for first-time or seasoned drivers. While many subcompact cars can feel low to the ground, the front seats are mounted high to provide the best outward visibility.

Rear passengers will enjoy an ample amount of legroom, which is surprising giving the car's size. Headroom, however, can feel a bit restrictive for taller passengers.

As for the materials used, the 2016 Yaris boasts an improvement from past models, but there are still plenty of hard plastic surfaces due to the car's economic build. Drivers can enjoy basic technology features and up to 15.6 cubic feet of cargo space (the two-door offers 15.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat).
Safety Features
The new Yaris comes with a slew of standard safety features, including antilock brakes, stability and traction control, multiple airbags, and active front head restraints. In testing, the four-door LE came to a complete stop from 60 mpg in 126 feet.

If you're in the market for an economical subcompact that offers a smooth ride and great interior space, the 2016 Toyota Yaris may be the car for you.
