Trim Levels
The most distinctive aspect of the C-HR is its exterior design. It is a five-door hatchback that sits up high with sweeping lines and accents to make it stand out. It comes in two different trim levels that are both well-equipped with features. The base XLE starts off with 18-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, and a rear spoiler. Bump up to the XLE Premium for fog lights, power-folding exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, and keyless entry. Both models also offer the option for the R-Code exterior look. This has a white roof, white mirrors, and white windshield pillars, and it is available with three of the color options.
Engine
Both trims come with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It generates 114 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque, and Toyota matches this engine up with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Performance
This little car is fun to drive and will handle corners and back roads like a pro. You can choose from three different drive modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport. The Eco is the most fuel-efficient mode, while the Sport mode changes the CVT, so it goes through seven gear ratios and firms up the steering for a sportier drive. The well-weighted steering makes the C-HR fun to drive out on curvy back roads, and the suspension eats up bumps in the road for a smooth and comfortable ride. Toyota estimates that the C-HR will get 27 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Interior
Inside the C-HR you'll find a stylish cockpit with a control center in the middle that Toyota calls the MeZone. The switches and knobs in the MeZone, along with the touch screen, are easy to access and even easier to use, while the unconventional shape makes it look interesting. Both trims have 7-inch display screens with steering wheel controls and a cargo light in the back. The XLE Premium adds a power driver's seat and heated front seats. Behind the rear seats, you'll find 19 cubic feet of cargo space. If you fold the rear seats down, the cargo space opens up to 36.4 cubic feet, about average for this class of car. In the front, there is plenty of head and legroom.
Safety Features
This subcompact crossover comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense-P suite of safety features. This bundle includes lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and a pedestrian detection system, and automatic high beams. It also has adaptive cruise control, and both models come standard with rearview cameras. The XLE Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.
