Trim Levels
The 2018 Tundra comes in five different trims as well as the TRD Pro and the new TRD Sport. The base trims include the SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, and the 1794 Edition. The SR trim comes in just a regular cab, while a double cab is an option on all the trims, and you can get the CrewMax cab on everything except the SR. All the models come with LED daytime running lights, while the Platinum, TRD Sport, and the SR5 with the TRD Off-Road package all come with new LED headlights and LED fog lights. The new TRD Sport has color-keyed bumpers along with color-keyed grille surround and mirrors, a hood scoop, and a bedside graphic.
Engine
There are two engines to choose from with the Tundra. The base is a 4.7-liter V-8 that generates 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque, and there is also a 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 381 horsepower and 301 pound-feet of torque. Both of these come with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and Toyota offers the option for four-wheel drive.
Performance
Toyota designed the Tundra for work, so it can tow up to 10,500 pounds, and if you need to haul, it can handle up to 2,080 pounds of payload in the bed. The fuel economy depends on the configuration, but the average EPA fuel economy is about 13 miles per gallon in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. All the Tundra models come with an automatic slip differential that applies the brakes individually to help you get back control when you need it.
Interior
The Tundra's cabin is spacious and comfortable with plenty of headroom and legroom. The 1794 Edition brings luxury to a new level with premium leather and a more refined look and feel. Dual zone automatic climate control is available as an option in the higher trims, and if you need more space in the cabin, the rear seats fold up to make it easier to load up your cargo. Depending on the trim, Toyota's Entune infotainment system is an option and comes with integrated navigation, and a suite of apps, along with a larger 7.1 touchscreen display. The lower trims feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen complete with Bluetooth, and a quick charging USB port.
Safety Features
New for 2018, the Tundra comes with the Toyota Safety Sense P suite of active and passive driver assist safety systems. This includes dynamic radar automatic cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, and a lane-departure warning system with lane-keep assist. Automatic high beams are also a part of this package, and all the Tundra models come standard with a wide-angle backup camera.
