2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid

2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid

Overview

Both Honda and Toyota offer outstanding hybrid small SUVs, but which one reigns supreme as the best daily commuting vehicle? Let's take a look at what each manufacturer offers between the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Trim or Model?

The Honda CR-V Hybrid is simply an additional powertrain among the standard CR-V lineup. It's available on three of the CR-V trim levels. This makes it almost an afterthought among the Honda lineup of vehicles. Toyota's RAV4 Hybrid, on the other hand, is a model unto itself that gets the latest Toyota multimedia infotainment technology and its own off-road trim level. More thought has gone into the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Engine Power

The latest Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is driven by a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor with a continuously variable transmission and a second electric motor to power the rear wheels for additional traction when needed for all-wheel drive. The RAV4 Hybrid nets 219 horsepower overall. The Honda CR-V Hybrid powertrain, by comparison, is driven by a 2.0-liter inline-four paired with an electric engine that gets only 204 horsepower.

Performance

When properly equipped, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds at the TRD Off-Road trim level. This trim level also offers special selectable terrain and drive modes plus a wealth of features that deliver superior performance when you need to blaze some trails. The CR-V, by comparison, can only tow 1,000 pounds with the hybrid powertrain and has no off-road-oriented trim level.
There's no question: The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a better hybrid small SUV than the Honda CR-V Hybrid.
