2023 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2023 Nissan Frontier

2023 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2023 Nissan Frontier

Overview

The Toyota Tacoma has differentiated itself in the pickup truck market, but one of its closest competitors is the Nissan Frontier. View this 2023 model year comparison to decide which is better suited to be your next vehicle.

Trims and Exterior

The S, SV, PRO-X, and PRO-4X trim levels of the 2023 Frontier come in King Cab and Crew Cab configurations. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in seven different variations: SR, SR5, Trail Edition, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. It offers a two-door Access Cab or the four-door Double Cab. Both trucks offer a 60-inch short bed, but the Tacoma's long bed is 73.2 inches, versus 72 inches on the Nissan.

Standard Engines

A 3.5-liter V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission are available options for the Toyota Tacoma's base model, getting 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Or you could go with the still-strong base engine, a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the base trim of the Nissan Frontier does not come with a V-6 engine. Instead, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine starting on lower Frontier trims only gets 152 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque.

Safety Features

The Frontier and Tacoma offer similar sets of safety features. However, adaptive cruise control is more easily found with the Toyota, as the Safety Sense P bundle includes it standard. It also has pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning, the latter of which requires the expensive Nissan Safety Shield 360 upgrade.
Overall, the Toyota Tacoma outperforms the Nissan competitor thanks to its engine options, diverse trims, and roomy design.
