If you are looking for some great hiking trails and paths, check out this list, pick the one you like the most, pack your gear, and hit the road with your family or a group of friends.

 

1. Charlies Bunion Trail at the Great Smokey Mountains National Park

The Great Smokey Mountains National Park is one of the most beautiful natural destinations not only in the state of Tennessee but in the entire United States. It features an area of more than half a million acres, going along the North Carolina state line and including parts of the mythical Appalachian Trail, as well as a series of jaw-dropping waterfalls, clear water rivers and streams, lush forests, and beautiful wildflowers.

Getting to the entrance of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park from Alcoa takes about half an hour by car. Once inside the national park, ask for directions to the Charlies Bunion Trail, which goes through breathtaking views of the surroundings and leads to an interesting stone known as Charlies Bunion. This firm, well-maintained trail is perfect for both amateurs and regular hikers, featuring a total length of eight miles.

2. Appalachian Trail at the Nantahala National Forest

The Appalachian Trail is one of the best-known hiking paths in the entire United States. With a length of more than 2,200 miles, it is often described as the longest hiking-only trail in the entire world, passing through 14 states and a wide range of ecosystems, towns, farms, and wilderness. For Alcoa locals, the Appalachian Trail can be joined at many different points, some of which are located within the premises of the Nantahala National Forest.

Getting to the entrance of this national forest from downtown Alcoa takes a little over an hour by car, driving a distance of 43 miles along route US-129 S. Once in the park, you can check out not only the Appalachian Trail but many different trekking paths going through a variety of natural wonders including photogenic waterfalls, ancient trees, and markers explaining the history of the area and its connection with the ancient Cherokee indigenous populations.

3. Art Love Trail at the Pisgah National Forest

With a total length of more than 30 miles, the Art Loeb Trail is one of the longest in the entire state of Tennessee. Going through a series of peaks and ridges, it offers some excellent views of the surrounding areas and is popular among hikers from nearby Asheville and other towns in the region. Getting to the Art Loeb trailhead from downtown Alcoa takes a little under three hours by car.
