2020 Hybrid Corolla at Rick McGill's Airport ToyotaFor the 2020 model year, Toyota has completely redesigned the Corolla compact car. As part of that redesign, the company has introduced its first-ever hybrid option. The Corolla Hybrid is only available in one trim level, at least for this year, but it offers a wide range of features, a comfortable interior, plenty of safety features, and the amazing fuel efficiency you expect from a Toyota hybrid vehicle. The Corolla was already a popular compact car, but with the hybrid model you can expect even more.

The Hybrid Engine

As a hybrid, this 2020 Toyota Corolla uses both an electric motor and a small gasoline engine to generate all the power it needs. Thanks to Toyota’s history with the Prius and other hybrid cars, the new Corolla Hybrid has one of the best gas mileage numbers in its class, even among other hybrids. However, hybrid engines can offer more than just efficiency, and the Corolla’s Power Mode lets you take advantage of the electric motor’s instant torque to leap forward from a full stop.

The Performance

The 2020 Corolla Hybrid offers plenty of comfort. The transition between electric and gasoline modes is quiet and smooth, and you’ll hardly even notice the difference when the regenerative brakes switch with the regular brakes. One performance change shared with all the new 2020 Corolla models is a lower body. This helps the Corolla stay in control at high speeds and when taking fast turns.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0

The Toyota Safety Sense package has become standard equipment on virtually every Toyota vehicle. However, that wasn’t good enough for the company and now they’re introducing the TSS version 2.0 on their newest models. You still get the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, automatic high beams, and the Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, but now you also get Road Edge Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist for highway cruising, and the Road Sign Assist that detects common road signs and alerts you to stop signs and speed limit markers.

The Infotainment System

Standard equipment on the 2020 Corolla Hybrid is an 8-inch touch screen that runs Entune 3.0 and works with Apple CarPlay, Siri Eyes Free, and the Toyota+Alexa app that lets you use Amazon Alexa to find local destinations and even unlock your car doors with your smartphone. The system also lets you stream audio through a Bluetooth connection, make hands-free phone calls, find locations using Scout GPS, and set up a Wi-Fi hotspot with a subscription.

With the new 2020 Corolla Hybrid, Toyota has added one more vehicle to the growing list of hybrids and electric cars that make it one of the leading companies developing practical alternate fuel vehicles. While it only has one trim level right now, that will change as the Corolla Hybrid line develops. However, car buyers looking for a bargain today will discover that the Corolla Hybrid gives them more fuel efficiency, more safety features, and a better looking design than what you get from the competition.
