Highlander redEvery day here at Rick McGill Toyota, we talk to people from various walks of life who are getting ready to make the exciting decision of their next auto purchase. As writer Jil Mcintosh from Autotrader.CA states in an article this week, many families are looking for “enough room, comfortable, starts reliably, requires little in repairs, and doesn’t break the bank.” This seems like a sensible mantra, as we know that many don’t want high horsepower or bells and whistles, just a way to get from A to B sensibly and economically.

Our three-row 2019 Highlander is the perfect means of getting the daily drive done, and the folks on staff at Autotrader.CA admired it first and foremost for its comfortable seating. If you are going to be spending lots of time in a vehicle, making sure the confines are always enjoyable is a necessity. The Highlander derives power from a 3.5-liter V6, churning out 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base level LE front-wheel drive, with all-wheel available.

You’ll want to make sure to check out the range-topping Limited trim: adding on top of that the SE package includes 19-inch black wheels, sport-tuned suspension, black interior and exterior trim, LED fog lamps, and ambient lighting. Stepping under that one trim level and opting for the XLE offers up dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, heated leather seats, auto-dimming mirror, power liftgate with flip-up glass, sunroof, and blind-spot monitoring. The testing staff for this feature ranked the Highlander as having “smooth and responsible” steering response, and the vehicle feels very firmly planted on the highway.

The curving console features two sliding lids that are above a decent-sized cubby, and under the dash is a shelf that is perfect for phone storage, while running the cord down through the keyhole. The infotainment system’s touchscreen is a snap to use, and the navigation system can locate an address for you within a split second. The system in the XLE includes satellite radio, Bluetooth, text, and email-to-speech function, along with four USB charging ports. We do know from experience to have our sights set upon the fierce competition against the Highlander: it comes in the forms of the Subaru Ascent, Volkswagen Atlas, Honda Pilot, and Mazda CX-9. The Highlander possesses a straightforward and smooth sense of delivery, and has been designed to feel functional without fuss: let us offer up for you a sensible and sensational new vehicle for 2019!
