Alcoa, TN, is surrounded by magnificent parks set in a breathtaking mountainous landscape of mature hardwood forests that stretch out to the horizon. 1. Springbrook Park and Alcoa Duck Pond

The beautiful tree-lined park with its perfectly manicured rolling green lawns is the perfect place for family picnics at the picnic tables scattered under the trees or for a barbecue at one of the four pavilions, each with a charcoal grill and picnic tables. Bring your fishing tackle along and fish in the 7.7-acre pond and stretch your legs on the 1.4-mile walking trail.

You can cool down in the massive 18,000 square foot outdoor pool and the 500 square foot wading pool. There is ample space to laze on the lawns around the pools and soak up the sun. The park has four lighted tennis courts, a lighted softball field, and four basketball goals. There is a playground where the kids can swing and climb and a toddler playground for the little ones.

2. Louisville Point Park

The 16-acre park in Louisville on the Tennessee River is a popular destination for swimming, paddling, and fishing. Play volleyball on the sand court and horseshoes, take a dip in the river, and grill a few juicy steaks on a charcoal grill after a day of fun in the sun. There is a boat ramp, playground, and restroom facilities.

The park is also a fantastic spot for birdwatching, with more than 170 bird species recorded. Keep your eyes peeled for featured beauties such as herons, double-crested cormorants, ospreys, mockingbirds, robins, belted kingfishers, sparrows, starlings, and hummingbirds.

3. Fort Loudoun State Historic Park

Fort Loudoun was built in 1756, overlooking Tellico Lake and the Appalachian Mountains. It is one of the earliest British fortifications on the western frontier and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. In addition to the historical significance, the 1,200-acre park also offers scenic hiking trails that wind through forests, meadows, and along the river with magnificent views of the lake and the Smoky Mountains.

Paddlers can explore the islands and see an abundance of birds along the shore on the Island Loop Water Trail. Anglers can fish for bass and catfish from the bank or the large fishing pier. The park is an excellent birding spot with the lake, forests, and meadows attracting a wide variety of migratory and shorebirds, bald eagles, quail, and ospreys.

4. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The magnificent 522,427-acres park is one of the most pristine natural areas in the country, with every season providing spectacular scenery. An astounding 850 miles of hiking and 550 miles of horseback riding trails wind through spruce-fir forests past bubbling mountain streams to roaring waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains. There are trails to Grotto, Laurel, Abrams, Rainbow, and other beautiful waterfalls. Smaller cascades can be found on nearly every river and stream that flows through the park.  

Drive down 384 miles of paved and unpaved roads on an unforgettable auto tour for astounding panoramic views through hardwood forests past tumbling mountain streams and historic buildings.
