Dog parks offer a variety of benefits for your furry friends, including improved social interactions with other dogs as well as an opportunity to get some exercise and stay healthy. Here in the Alcoa, Tennessee, area, you can find several dog parks that are fun for you and Fido.
You may notice that several of the dog parks in the area share the name “PetSafe.” Several years ago, PetSafe and Knox County committed to turning Knoxville into “The Most Pet-Friendly Community” in the United States. In turn, PetSafe donated money to build five dog parks in and around Knoxville, which is about 15 miles north of Alcoa.
PetSafe Dog Park at Pistol Creek
The first public dog park in Maryville was PetSafe Dog Park at Pistol Creek, located about three miles from Alcoa. It includes a half-acre open area for smaller dogs and a one-acre area for big dogs, as well as benches and a covered pavilion for owners to relax. The park is open daily from dawn until dusk and offers an unleashing area for safe play between non-aggressive dogs, waste stations, and drinking fountains for your pups.
The rules require you to bring a leash and keep it in hand while you’re at the park. You may want to leave toys at home or in the car since some dogs get possessive when another dog gets too close.
Charter Doyle PetSafe Dog Park
Charter Doyle Park, located in South Knoxville, contains a dog park within its boundaries. The park has been there for several decades, so mature cedar trees provide plenty of shade, and you can let your pups play in the separated areas for large and small dogs. The facilities include a dog water fountain and waste stations, along with a 0.4-mile loop that goes around the park.
PetSafe Downtown Dog Park
This park is one acre in size, situated on Central Avenue and Summit Hill Drive. The entrance complements other buildings in the downtown area, and you can take advantage of the water fountains for humans and dogs, along with separate small and large dog sections and waste stations.
Dogwood Park at Victor Ashe Park
This dog park sits on Bradshaw Road in Knoxville, and it’s the perfect destination if you have kids that want to play at the park while the dogs have fun in their own separate area. Victor Ashe Park contains a fishing area and children’s playground, while the paved greenway around the park permits dogs on leashes. The smaller off-leash area within Dogwood Park also has a playground designed for dogs, along with a water fountain.
Before taking your pup to a dog park and letting him or her off the leash, make sure to practice etiquette around other dogs. Training is helpful as well, and if you think your dog may become aggressive, keep him or her on the leash for safety. When your dog is ready for playtime at a dog park, there are plenty of options in the Alcoa area.
