Fall Activities in Alcoa, TNAs the summer draws to a close, may people throughout the country enjoy spending time outside in the pleasant temperatures, watching the leaves change and taking advantage of beautiful surroundings. In the Alcoa, Tennessee area, there are plenty of free activities that you and your family can enjoy this fall.

Market Square Farmer’s Market

The Market Square Farmer’s Market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays through mid-November in Knoxville, which is about 15 miles from Alcoa. Admission is always free, and there are nearby garages that also offer free parking on the weekends. You and your family can walk through the booths to see local produce from farms in the area, along with vendors who sell their handmade crafts. Relax and enjoy the live entertainment, which varies from week to week, and sample food from local food trucks. It’s open on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Foothills Fall Festival

A 20-acre area in Downtown Maryville transforms into an exciting destination for families during the fall for the annual Foothills Fall Festival. Support from local sponsors allows for free admission, and festivities include music, demonstrations of arts and crafts, and other activities for all ages. Maryville is just a five-minute drive from Alcoa, so stop by and enjoy the fun when the festival releases its dates.

Movie on the Square

Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and some lawn chairs, and enjoy a movie in Market Square on Friday events through mid-October. The films shown are generally family friendly, although there is one PG-13 film showing (Star Warns Episode VII) in early October. This weekly event is also in Knoxville, and admission is free. Movies will start when it gets dark, generally around 8 p.m.

Story Time at Barnes and Noble

The Barnes and Noble store in Suburban Plaza in Knoxville hosts a variety of activities for kids of all ages. Each event is free and some cater to a specific group, like the LEGO Star Wars Rogue One Build event, where kids ages 8 and up can participate in a building activity with designs from the upcoming film. In mid-October, stop by for a special reading of the latest story in the popular “Pete the Cat” series, or come on Saturday October 22 to enjoy breakfast with Spot, a favorite character. This particular event is Halloween-themed, so bring kids dressed in their costumes.

The story time and related activities start each Saturday at 11 a.m.

Central Baptist Bearden Fall Festival

Stop by the Central Baptist Bearden, a church in Knoxville, on Sunday, October 30 to enjoy their annual fall festival. Activities for guests of all ages include games, a bungee trampoline, hay rides, food, and trunk-or-treating around the parking lot. Be sure to wear your costume and take part in the festivities. The event goes from 4-6 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
