One of Toyota’s latest designs, the Grand Highlander is a mid-sized crossover vehicle that boasts capable powertrains and a well-equipped, three-row cabin. Powertrain Options
The Grand Highlander Hybrid’s standard powerplant consists of two electric motors and a 2.5L inline-4 that combine to produce a total of 245 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. The electronic continuously variable transmission smoothly delivers power to the drive wheels. An even more powerful system called the Hybrid MAX centers on a 2.4L turbo inline-4 and boosts performance to 362 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system is available for a boost in confidence when traveling over slippery roads or backcountry trails. When it detects a potential loss in traction, it has an electric motor send the appropriate amount of torque to the rear wheels to maintain good grip. Fuel economy for any powertrain is impressive, especially for the 2.5L motor at up to 36 MPG combined.
Passenger Cabin
With its cavernous interior that offers a slew of great amenities, the Grand Highlander Hybrid is perfectly suited for hauling the family or cargo. There are three rows of seating for up to eight people, which includes generous legroom at 39.5 inches for the second row and 33.5 inches for the third row. Both back rows can be folded down to provide over 97 cubic feet of cargo space.
The XLE Hybrid comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, plush SofTex-trimmed seats, heated front seats, and a wireless charging station. Other models in the lineup offer additional comforts, such as heated and ventilated rear outboard seats for the second row and warm ambient lighting.
Multimedia and Connectivity
All models are equipped with a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, and support for SiriusXM satellite radio. An optional 11-speaker JBL premium audio system pumps out deep, rich sound. Along with cloud-based navigation, available connected services include roadside assistance, regular vehicle status reports, and remote access for the ignition system.
Safety
Within the Grand Highlander Hybrid’s cabin, you’ll find automatic/emergency locking retractors for all passenger seat belts and a comprehensive airbag system providing excellent protection.
