TRD Camry Rick McGill's Airport ToyotaOne topic that we never get tired of here at Rick McGill is the brand-new and fully-redesigned 2019 Camry: It was featured in Car and Driver this past week, where they proclaimed out of the gate that it is the “hottest ever.” The all-new TRD trim level boasts a sportier suspension tune, and new styling accents that cleverly build on the current sporty XSE level. The 2020 TRD mark is usually in reference to off-road trucks and SUV’s, and therefore marks the outfit’s first time in equipping “pavement pounders,” or sedans meant for the urban streets.

Usually, family sedans like the Camry are not the place that you’d find red seatbelts, which are usually a symbol of a car with sporty aspirations and ultra-high performance. You’ll also find a TRD shift knob, and super cool red-hued dashboard lighting. A six-cylinder engine is standard within the Camry, during a time when most automakers are opting to place turbocharged 4-cylinders in performance upgraded versions. The 3.5-liter V6 that’s optional on the regular Camry for the TRD model will definitely get you moving along without any hesitation! The only competitor we are aware of that still boasts a V-6 is the Ford Fusion Sport, solidifying the originality and unique abilities of the car we so love to have on our lot.

The TRD Camry actually makes the same amount of 301 horsepower that you can expect from the non-TRD Camry with the V6, but there is a much freer-flowing exhaust system that sports two very large and round exhaust tips. Before anyone begins to worry too much, keep in mind that the Camry XSE V-6 on which the TRD is based nailed down a 6.8-second time for the 0 to 60 speed test. The complete specifics have not been outlined yet, but it has also been claimed that the Camry TRD’s body shell will be much stiffer than a regular Camry’s, and the underbody will noticeably benefit from the additional support here. Fully-functional track tuning is one of the qualities that the new Camry will be most known for, as a firmed-up suspension, stiffer coil springs, TRD-specific shocks, and new anti-roll bars in the front and rear will all work together to increase resistance to body roll.

The entire ride is lowered by 0.6 inch, which makes for better handling as well as a more modern stance. Each of the new 19-inch matte-black wheels is said to be 3.1 pounds lighter apiece than their siblings situated on the non-TRD Camry. The rims are also a half-inch wider, and boast Bridgestone Potenza summer tires for better grip and sustainability. The brakes are the new two-piston units that are clamped onto 0.9-inch larger rotors, under the guise of drastically improving stopping power and better brake engagement through the pedal.

You’ll notice at first glance that this is the most aerodynamic stance ever to be present on a Camry, and there are other awesome add-ons like black winglets, and a finned diffuser element situated between the tailpipes. Ask us about the new two-tone top as well: never offered before, it is another exciting additive to trick out the Camry and add the characteristic of souped-up sensation that the car always evokes!
