Cars have electrical systems that help start the car and that power all of the car’s accessories such as the stereo, power windows, lights, and much more. Getting regular maintenance from your Toyota dealer will help keep your electrical system running well, but sometimes you’ll experience electrical problems anyway. You should always get these fixed at the dealer.

1. Battery Issues

The car battery dying is a very common electrical issue. It usually happens because the battery is old, but it can also happen if the battery hasn’t been fully charged. Batteries can sometimes be jumpstarted, and some battery issues can be repaired, but most faulty batteries will need to be replaced at the dealer.

2. Alternator Issues

Your alternator’s main job is to charge your battery while your car is in motion. It’s made up of several parts that wear out over time, so it’s pretty normal for you to have a little alternator trouble sooner or later. The dealer will generally replace worn-out parts before you have any issues. However, problems may arise unexpectedly. A quick trip to the dealer will result in your alternator issues being fixed quickly.

3. Starter Motor Issues

Your battery powers a small motor called the starter motor. This motor switches on the combustion engine when you start your ignition. The motor can fail, and when it does, you’ll typically hear a clicking noise, but your car won’t start. The starter solenoid can also fail, and when that happens, your car won’t start, but you will hear a whirring sound. Starter motor issues should be diagnosed and repaired by a Toyota expert at the dealership.

4. Wiring Issues

The wires that connect all the parts of your electrical system can become loose over time, leading to electrical issues. Rodents can also get into your car’s engine and chew on these wires, severing connections and creating faults. A professional needs to figure out which wires are affected and replace them when there are problems.

5. Spark Plug Issues

For every cylinder in your engine, there’s a spark plug that ignites the fuel and gets the engine going. If all of your spark plugs fail, then your engine won’t turn on. If one or more fail, then your engine won’t be able to perform at full capacity, so you’ll start having problems.

6. Fuse Issues

Cars have lots of fuses in them, and fuses can blow at any time. The fuse box itself may also become faulty, although this is usually a low-maintenance component of your car. Either way, fuse problems need to be taken care of by a professional.

If you catch electrical issues early, then fixing them should be a breeze. Come by Rick McGill’s Airport Toyota to get all potential electrical issues repaired pronto.
