Your Car Vibrates When You Drive

Car vibrations when you drive can be a sign of a suspension problem. They are, however, more likely to mean that your tires are wearing out. Your tires have a metal belt running through the center of the tread supported on either side by composite belts. These belts reinforce the tread. As time passes, the metal and composite belts inside your tires can start to separate internally.

If your car only vibrates when you’re driving at 50 mph or faster, you could have tire balance or alignment problems. Our technicians will examine your tire to find the cause of the problem. We can easily rebalance and realign your tires if needed. If your tires are damaged inside, we can fit replacements for you and align and balance them.

Tire Bulges

Bulges or bubbles in your tires are signs of air pockets that can form if your tires are damaged. They are caused when a tire section is pinched due to contact with a hard object. If your tire strikes a curb, for example, a section of the tread or sidewall may be damaged by the impact. This forms a permanent air pocket in the tire.

These air pockets are dangerous as the rubber around the pocket is stretched thinner. A bulge can easily burst, especially if you’re driving at speed on the highway. A blown tire can result in a serious accident. We can’t, unfortunately, repair a tire bulge. If you discover a bulge, we advise bringing your car into our service department ASAP for a replacement tire.

Your Tires Are Losing Air

Your tires will lose a small amount of air each month, roughly 1 – 3 psi per tire. This is normal as the internal tire pressure balances with the outside air pressure. Should you notice that your tires are losing air more rapidly, this is a sign of a problem. One of your tires may have a slow leak caused by a nail or other sharp object.

Another possible cause of air loss is a damaged tire inflator nozzle. When your tires get older, the rubber becomes less elastic. The nozzle can also slightly weaken and create a slow leak. We will check your tires and repair or replace them depending on the problem.

If you have any tire problems, call us ASAP at Rick McGill’s Airport Toyota.
