There are plenty of mainstream things to do in Knoxville, TN that visitors will check out first when in the city. These attractions are great, be it the zoo or Ijams Nature Center, but they don’t give you full insight into the city or the surrounding area. If you want to get off the beaten path, here are a few hidden gems in and around the city that you should check out instead.

Sutherland Avenue

This area of Knoxville is often ignored by tourists and visitors but is, in fact, one of the more trendy and cool districts of the city. This long road stretches from the Marble City area to the Highland Memorial Cemetery and is about a ten-minute drive from Knoxville Old Town.

In this area, you’ll find many great cafes to start your day and bustling markets like Backroads Market, filled with varied and exciting produce. For the outdoorsy, you can also jog along the Third Creek Greenway, which runs parallel to the avenue. You’re spoiled for food choices here, too, but the best option is chicken at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken.

Fort Dickerson Park & Quarry

If you’re looking for amazing views near Knoxville that most don’t know about, then it’s worth making the short trip to Fort Dickerson Quarry. The Quarry is just a short drive south of downtown and is breathtaking. The Quarry overlooks the rest of Fort Dickerson Park and is great for swimming on a hot day.

The sunsets are also fantastic here, as at the highest point, you’re able to get a view that spans miles. You can kayak and paddleboard in the Quarry, too, meaning there are plenty of options on how you want to enjoy yourself when at the destination. It’s only a short drive, but it’s still worth getting there in style with a new RAV4 from Rick McGill’s Airport Toyota.

Blount Mansion

Blount Mansion is the city’s oldest operating museum and is known as the birthplace of Tennessee. It was the home of William Blount all the way back in 1792, who was one of the men to sign the U.S. Constitution. At Blount, you can explore the old townhouse and get a sense of what it was like when it was lived in all those years ago.

It’s a beautiful location and stands out among the modern buildings of the Downtown area. As well as being able to explore the property, there’s also a flourishing garden on site that was created by William Pitkin, Jr, a leading landscape architect of the time. You can find Blount Mansion at 200 W Hill Avenue.

These are just a few of the more unique locations that Knoxville has to offer, and there’s really a lot to see and do in the city. To see it all, you will need a reliable car to get you to where you want to go. Don’t compromise and get the best car for you at Rick McGill’s Airport Toyota.
